Chile Ski Resorts

Chile ski resorts are well renowned for their amazing slopes, stunning views and great weather. Not to mention a great nightlife after sunset! Unfortunately, I did not have the pleasure to go skiing while I was in Chile. This was due to a lack of money towards the end of my trip! But I was in Santiago as ski season was taking off and I spoke with many travellers and Chileans who were having the time of their lives!

As I did not go skiing I unfortunately cannot let you know just how much fun it is from a personal view point. So, I will create a list of ski resorts that were recommended to me and point you in the direction of some more useful information. I hope it helps!

Farellones Ski Resort

Farellones, or as more popularly know, El Colorado is the most famous ski slope in Chile. It reaches altitudes of over 3300m and is one of the largest ski centres in South America! As it is only a 40 minute drive out of Santiago, it is one of the most popular and is apparently very busy during peak season.

There are 62 tracks that cater for the absolute beginner, (which is defimately where I will be heading when I get a chance) intermediate and expert.

Circuito Bichos de Farellones

Small hotels are dotted all around the area, but it is best to get in early to avoid disappointment.

Valle Nevado Ski Resort

This is another Chile ski resorts that is very popular due to its location and amazing scenery. High up in the Andes, you will find this modern ski centre, and again it is only just over 30 miles from Santiago, so is superbly positioned for the masses. With this in mind, you can probably guess that during ski season this ski centre is jam-packed with keen skiers. Get in early!

Portillo Ski Resort

Again, one of the most famous Chile ski resorts, Portillo is located high up in the Andes, albeit slightly further away from Santiago, with a journey duration of around 2 hours (about 102 miles). It lies very close to the border with Argentina and its claim to fame is that it lies very near to the foot of the highest mountain peak in the Western Hemisphere, Aconcagua. In fact, except for the Himalayas, this is the highest peak in the World!
